I feel this feature should be integrated with “Allow resuming an on-line match using the replay file”. Part of that feature would involve choosing which frame to start from, and in this case it’d be frame 0. (In the full-featured version of the feature, the difference between this kind of resumption and “secure resumption from a disconnected game at the point of disconnection” would be made obvious to all players before the game started.)

Having said that, it is possible to do this right now with no modification to W:A (and has been since before the betas). I don’t think I should reveal the method here; if used dishonorably, it could give the host quite an unfair advantage. (In fact, I plan to make it impossible once the resumption feature is implemented.)

Not really FFie :), worms won't be placed in the exact same way, one pixel makes the difference in a grassy surface. Also the mines and oil drums placement will be different. Would be indeed interesting to have the chance of switching places with your opponent for all the random placement schemes.
Could it be possible that when you extract the map, the worms and objects placement is not lost?

If it gets too complicated, being able to resume an on-line game only with the original players is more than good enough, without the other features. In order to do that some kind of file could be created in each player's PC as soon as the game starts. Then only when they are all together the game could be restored.

Indeed, you could disconnect on purpose and test things before coming back on-line, even ask someone else what to do. What about an option that allows to "lock" a saved game so that only when all the "keys"(each player in the game would get a different digital one) are together the game can be resumed?. So that you could keep the "take over teams" feature and still have "secure" games when needed.

A "save game" feature would be even nicer, with automatic saving each time a turn ends (otherwise if you make a hard try and screw it up and you disconnect on purpose before another turn starts you could "erase" your miss). Also any player should be able to take control of the chosen team/s when loading a saved game.

This will make more sense when in-progress games will be joinable, which will be the case in 4.0 (players would join as spectators until the end of the match). The suggestion can be done as it is now, but I think it would put too much stress on the current design of the WormNET server, so if this will ever come before 4.0, it will surely come after the new WormNET server supporting flags/ranks.

Meanwhile the snooper seems to be good enough to solve that problem.

Support for per-team ammo and perhaps delay is currently supported by the W:A engine, as seen in missions – thus, this will be made available when support for user-made missions will be added. I’d rather leave out per-team weapon power though.

I am not talking about per-team settings, I mean grab Elite scheme, set mole power to 5 and if someone selects mole as his team weapon the moles he has will have their power sett at 5, not 3 (try it and you will understand). Even better if you can go to the granny options and sett it in a way that if someone selects the granny as his SW he will have 2 instead of 1 granny, and so on with all.

It would be much easier to do this outside W:A, kind-of-like a retranslation bot. That would resolve all the UI design and protocol issues. Would that work as a compromise?

Ranks and secure logins are part of 4.0’s WormNET design. However, I don’t see strong reasons (and lots of counter-reasons) to keep anonymous logins in 4.0. Also, how the ranks, experience etc. are calculated remains an open and very complicated question.

In fact what D3v1L says happened in that way at Age of Empires in it's official server. There were 2 communities completely separated, rarely ever getting in touch. Imagine that at WA with 1/10 of the population and consider that there is already a small gap between those who normally play in a private league and those who don't. With a separated rated room that gap could grow bigger.

I am not convinced about "official" rankings coming back. I believe the private leagues being hosted are doing a good job by offering a large variety of options when it comes to competing, while wormnet itself remains unranked, giving more space to friendly games and socializing (thing that I think is crucial to prevent our small community from fading away).

Just like with crates (creation probability per turn, number of objects capped at the original number of objects in the terrain), but with mines and why not oil drums. Make sure they pop-up and do not fall (they could get activated wile they fall or bounce). Yet I don't think I would appreciate the extra randomness of this in a serious game :P .
